Students 2D designs are coming to life with a new incredible tool in their Makerspaces.  Introducing the Glowforge!  The glowforge is a unique 3D laser cutter that will cut, engrave, or etch wood, fabric, leather, paper, acrylic, rubber, and metal (just to name a few).  Students create a design they would like to see on the medium of choice, whether it be their own 2D drawing, a royalty free image, or a combination of both and watch as the Glowforge uses its laser to precisely cut, engrave, or etch the material into a masterpiece.

Students in Art Teacher, Jennifer Moore’s 8th grade classes at OMS are not only designing and printing products for themselves, but for others in mind, as well.  Wallets, mini skate park, earrings, and wall hangings are just a few items her students have been working on.

At EGMS, eighth grade students in Michelle Robbins and Emily Saunders’ Technology classes are also including their programming skills on the microbit to create a robot whose head moves and displays a message on the LED matrix.

Students are finding that with the Glowforge, their personal designs can really turn into a 3D creation they can be proud of.  Check out all the cool products our middle school students are making!
